Abstract:

The Large Hadron Collider at CERN is one of the best examples of international research project where e-Infrastructures, and in particular distributed computing infrastructures like EGI, have proved to be critical to its success. The discovery of the Higgs boson in 2012 by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations at LHC, a major outstanding milestone in science, was possible thanks to the excellent
performance and large capabilities of the Worldwide LHC Computing Grid (WLCG) project, relying on EGI infrastructure and services.
